Medicare Supplement (Medigap)

Medigap is extra insurance sold by private insurers that can help cover certain deductibles, coinsurance and copayments under Original Medicare.

What to know

Medigap works with Original Medicare, not Medicare Advantage. Standardized policy benefits, enrollment protections, and availability can vary by state and circumstances.

Questions to consider

Does Medigap include prescription drugs?

Medigap policies sold after 2005 do not include Part D drug coverage. A separate Part D plan may be appropriate.

When can I buy Medigap?

A federal six-month Medigap Open Enrollment Period generally begins when you are at least 65 and enrolled in Part B; other state protections may apply.
